Events in 2023: Co-Women is off to a good start!

As we bid farewell to the year’s longest month, it’s been a positive start for us here at Co-Women. Wondering what you’ve missed? I’ll recap…

During the first half of the month, we did something that many people avoided and went to the pub! Rather than a night of merely drinking and chatting, we headed to the Fitz Regent to put our brains to the test courtesy of their quiz. For those who have previously visited the venue formerly known as the Pav Tav, it has now been impressively renovated. The bar is fully stocked with a variety of drinks to cater to all tastes – whilst I wasn’t participating in Dry January, I was in charge of driving myself and Jo home, so took the opportunity to try out an alcohol-free Gordon’s and tonic. It makes a nice change from the standard pub soft drinks, and didn’t disappoint.

The quiz is run by Inquizition, and had a variety of picture, music (and spoken audio!) and traditional question-based rounds to keep us entertained. Whilst there were maths questions which weren’t quite up our creativity-focused street (sadly the accountants of the group weren’t able to join us, due to January being a busy time for them), we put our heads together to successfully figure out all sorts of word puzzles. Our years of dancing and enjoying other cultural experiences also came in handy when it was time for the music round, and to scrutinise pictures of travel posters in order to identify destinations.

There were spot prizes too, and whilst I came very close to figuring out what 50 cents from 1999 would be worth in 2023, none of us were anywhere near guessing how many bridges span the Thames, so we didn’t take home any prizes there.

When it came to the main event, our score was respectable for one of the smaller teams in the room, and we finished in the middle of the pack. More importantly, we’d got ourselves out of our respective homes on a rainy January evening and forgotten our troubles for a few hours, whilst also catching up properly having not seen each other since our Christmas party.

A week later, several of us met at Lavash on North Street for a very special evening. Those of us in attendance have secured our places on Co-Women’s first international trip, which will see us visiting Marrakech for three nights in March. I booked us a table at the Middle Eastern-style restaurant as a nod to our future destination, and we were joined by Lesley, our resident Travel Counsellor who has taken care of booking our trip for us.

There was a ‘get to know you’ quiz, which everyone had submitted answers for in advance. We all now know that two of us don’t forget to pack anything as we’re so organised, whilst everyone else has a tendency to leave out items such as phone chargers and toothpaste – everyone knows who will have spares! We also discussed future dream destinations and there was a Caribbean theme, so if all goes well in Marrakech, watch this space…

Lesley listened to our wish list in terms of excursions and activities for our short-but-sweet trip, and we’re looking forward to checking out the city’s infamous gardens, markets, and possibly a visit to a hammam as well. One thing’s for certain – we’re coming back with stories to make everyone else jealous, and have a party twice the size for our next holiday!

It seems as though a lot has happened already, and that was only January! If you’d like to join us, we’re actively seeking sociable, supportive new members, who can dive straight in and start enjoying our busy calendar of events. If this sounds like you, come and see what we’re all about. There might even be space for you on the plane to Morocco…
