As Sussex’s premier networking and social club for women in business, we’re often asked what’s different about us, and what it’s like to be a member. So we’re here to answer your most frequently asked questions. Beware: when you make it to the end of the post, you’ll be more than ready to join us!
What is Co-Women?
Founded in 2020, Co-Women was set up in response to a lot of business networking events being boring. We wanted to do things differently – less pitching, more fun, and even more supporting each other. It was a great idea. Until the world shut down socially!
But, being the persistent types, we’ve survived the pandemic, and so have our members. Many are seeing their hard work pay off and their businesses are thriving. Others are still getting started. We don’t care whether you’re in one of those categories or somewhere else on your journey, you will be welcomed with open hearts, big smiles, and a wealth of advice that will help you to succeed.
Supporting our fellow women is at the core of what we do… and so is letting our hair down. Whether it’s our infamous Christmas party, our monthly Chai & Chatter meet ups, or one of our less conventional activities such as axe throwing or pottery making, we’d love you to join us if that sounds like your vibe.
We challenge ourselves and our members to consistently keep their social lives flowing as much as their businesses. We recognise that women have a lot of commitments and pressures, and tend to not take time to actually enjoy themselves, so that’s what we’re here to encourage, by organising fun and engaging events to keep you coming back for more.
Who can join?
Co-Women welcomes all those who identify as women in business. Whether you’re self-employed, employed, or a mixture of the two (as more than one of our members is!), you can be part of our group. We are open to small business owners as well as those who are flying solo, and we don’t restrict the number of people per industry, partly because this isn’t about suggesting preferred suppliers constantly. In fact, we love it when you introduce us to new people, whether it’s a tradesperson or a cool place to hang out. If it adds something to your life – or there’s something you have a need for – we want to know about it.
The only other requirement is that you want to have fun! We are a social club, which means that we relish meeting up in person to try all sorts of activities. You can pick and choose based on when you’re available and what excites you, but we do want to meet your wonderful self in person.
Can I try it out first?
Of course! Come and meet us to double check that we’re your people. We welcome non-members at two events before kindly asking that you join the group. Although, we’ll warn you in advance that most people don’t make it as far as the second date before committing! Lots of first-timers have signed up as soon as they’ve got home, eager to reap the full rewards of membership and join us at our exclusive members-only outings.
